#AEWSOC Quarterfinals Set for Thursday

The 2016 America East Women's Soccer Championship kicks off with the quarterfinals on Thursday night, as No. 6 Vermont visits No. 3 Stony Brook and No. 5 Maine heads to No. 4 New Hampshire. Both games will be broadcast on AmericaEast.TV beginning at 7 p.m. 


No. 6 Vermont at No. 3 Stony Brook - 7 pm

  • Stony Brook earned its highest seed (No. 3) since 2013 when the Seawolves were co-regular-season champions and the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
  • Vermont earned its second-straight tournament trip and fifth in the last six years.
  • The Catamounts won their first-ever tournament game in 2015, beating UMBC, 1-0. Prior to that, UVM was 0-8-2 in tournament contests.
  • Stony Brook is 7-6-1 in the tournament. The Seawolves had missed each of the last two tournaments. In its last appearance, Stony Brook made a run to the title game before falling to UMBC in 2013.
  • Vermont is 1-4-1 overall in the quarterfinals, advancing to the semifinals last season and in 2012.
  • Stony Brook is 3-0 all-time in quarterfinal games with wins in 2012, 2009 and 2007.
  • This is Stony Brook’s first appearance as a No. 3 seed.
  • This is Vermont’s third appearance as a No. 6 seed. They are 0-2 in their previous appearances.
  • No. 3 seeds are 8-3-3 all-time vs. the No. 6 seed in America East tournament play. The last No. 6 seed to beat a No. 3 seed was Stony Brook over UNH in 2012. The Seawolves went on to become the first-ever No. 6 seed to win the America East title.
  • This is the 1st-ever meeting between the Seawolves & Catamounts in tournament play.

  • Longtime rivals are meeting for just the 4th time in the America East Championship and the third time in the quarterfinals.
  • Teams are meeting for the tournament play  for the second-straight season. Maine beat UNH in penalty kicks in the quarterfinals last year.
  • Maine is 6-9-7 in tournament play and is looking for its first title.
  • Maine has qualifiied for 13 of the last 14 America East tournaments and have advanced to the semifinals three times in the last five seasons.
