Purrier Runs Nation's Top Time En Route to #AETF Award

BOSTON – School records aplenty were broken last weekend in a number of track and field events. Namely, it was Elinor Purrier who broke a New Hampshire school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with the top time in the country this season. Three UMBC student-athletes broke school records while Vermont saw a 23 year-old record fall in the 800-meter run.

 

Here are this week’s award winners:

 

Male Track Performer of the Week

Jamal Cody, UMBC – So., Sprints/Hurdles, Hereford, Md.

  • Won the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.73 at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic
  • Cody's time broke a school record in the event
  • His time ranks first in America East 

 

Male Field Performer of the Week

Adrian Mitchell, Albany - Fr., Throws, Kingston, Jamaica

  • Placed seventh overall in the open men’s javelin at the Beach Invitational
  • Mark of 227-02.00 (69.25m) is a personal best, breaking his own freshman school record 
  • The mark leads America East and ranks 21st in the nation this season

 

Female Track Performer of the Week

Elinor Purrier, New Hampshire - Jr., Distance, Montgomery, Vt.

  • Won the 3000m steeplechase in school-record time of 9:43.65
  • Purrier's time is the best in the country this season

 

 Female Field Performer of the Week

 Kaylyn Gordon, Stony Brook – Jr., Jumps, Spring Valley, N.Y. 

  • Won the women's triple jump marking 12.27m
  • Finished fifth in the long jump marking 5.59m
