7 Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch Lists

Release: 03/03/2017

Seven America East men's and women's lacrosse standouts were named to the 2017 Tewaaraton Watch List as announced by the foundation Tuesday evening. The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top college lacrosse player in the United States and has been given out each year since 2001.

On the men’s side, Albany’s Connor Fields, Stony Brook’s Ryland Rees and Vermont’s Cam Milligan were named while Albany’s Sarah Martin and Stony Brook’s Courtney Murphy, Kylie Ohlmiller and Dorrien Van Dyke were listed.

The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the 2017 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour.

Players not named to the initial lists have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 16 and April 6. On April 27, the field will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced on May 11 and invited to the ceremony. The 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on June 1.

America East is the only conference other than the ACC to have had multiple men’s Tewaaraton Award winners and have four in total. Lyle Thompson won the award for the seccond time last year after sharing the honor with his brother, Miles, in 2014. Hofstra's Doug Shanahan, who won the first award in 2001, was the first America East athlete to earn the honor.
