Five Men's Soccer Teams In Action on Friday

Every gameday throughout the 2010 season, America East will provide a men's soccer update that  previews the day's matchups as well as recaps the previous day's action. The update will also provide links to live coverage, box scores and highlights of select games. Friday, September 10
New Hampshire vs. Cornell, 1:30 p.m.-  Live Video

The Wildcats will look to continue their undefeated start to the 2010 season when they face Cornell in the opening game of the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Classic in Burlington, Vt.

UNH opened its season in impressive fashion, winning the UNH Nike Fall Classic. After opening the tournament with a 0-0 (20T) tie against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Wildcats responded with a 1-0 win over Central Connecticut St. Freshman midfielder Steven Palumbo scored the lone goal of the game in the 35th minute, with his twin brother freshman midfielder Robert Palumbo providing the assist. Senior goalkeeper Colin O’Donnell made seven saves in the win, and was named tournament MVP after posting back-to-back shutouts.

The Wildcats wrap up their participation in the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Classic when they face Presbyterian on September 12.

Presbyterian vs. Vermont, 4 p.m. –  Live Video

Vermont will look to build on the momentum from its 2-1 (2OT) victory over Wisconsin-Milwaukee when it faces Presbyterian in the first day of the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Classic.

After losing to Central Connecticut St. in the opening game of the UNH Nike Fall Classic, the Catamounts responded with a thrilling victory against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. UVM took the lead in the 3rd minute, when freshman defender Salvatore Borea scored the first goal of his career. Wisconsin-Milwaukee tied the game in the 22nd minute and it appeared the game was headed for a tie. However, junior forward Nick O’Neill scored his second game-winning goal of the season, this one coming with only 20 seconds left on the clock, to give the Catamounts the win.

UVM closes out the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Classic on September 12 with a matchup against Cornell.

Stony Brook vs. Holy Cross, 4:30 p.m. – Live Stats ; Live Video

Stony Brook will look to end its three-game losing skid when it faces Holy Cross at the Dartmouth Nike Hypertherm Classic. This will be the third meeting between the programs, with the Crusaders holding a 1-0-1 record.

In their 2-0 loss to USF, the Seawolves fell behind in the first two minutes, with Shawn Chin scoring off a free kick. Stony Brook attacked throughout the match, attempting six shots on goal, but couldn’t find a way to get the ball past USF goalkeeper Jeff Attinella. The Bulls put the game away in the 74th minute, as Bernardo Anor scored from the penalty spot after being fouled in the box.

The Seawolves close out their participation in the Dartmouth Nike Hypertherm Classic when they face the host Dartmouth Big Green on September 12.

Binghamton vs. No. 11 Ohio St., 5 p.m.- Live Stats

The Bearcats continue the search for their first victory of the season when they face No. 11 Ohio State at the Penn State Tournament in State College, Pa.

Binghamton opened its season at the West Virginia Men’s Soccer Classic, losing two games against nationally-ranked opponents. After losing to No. 23 UNC-Wilmington in the opener, the Bearcats fell 2-0 to No. 9 Monmouth. Monmouth midfielder Ryan Kinne scored in the 41st minute and 87th minute to give the Hawks the victory. In defeat, Binghamton played quite well, outshooting Monmouth 12-10.

The Bearcats will close out their participation in the Penn State Tournament on September 12 with a match up against Penn State.

Boston University at Seton Hall, 7 p.m. –  Live Video

Boston University will look to extend its undefeated start to the season when it opens up a three-game road trip with a visit to Seton Hall.

The Terriers picked up their second consecutive victory on September 6 with a 2-0 win over Columbia. After a scoreless first half, Boston University dominated the final 45 minutes, using goals from senior midfielder Ben Havey and senior forward Aaron O’Neal to pick up the win. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brandon Briggs made seven saves to help the Terriers earn the shutout.

Following the matchup with Seton Hall, the Terriers travel to Queens, N.Y. to face No. 25 St. John’s.
