PRINCETON, N.J. – Several America East athletes stood out at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which were held this weekend on the campus of Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. This group included four individual champions – three women and one on the men’s side – and 10 total student-athletes that finished in the top three in their events.

Maine’s Jesse Labreck (Oakland, Maine) highlighted the individual winners, setting a new school-record in the heptathlon to claim gold. The senior improved her score to 5,551 points, which is the 12th highest score in the country as athletes prepare for NCAA Regional Meets.

Mercedes Jackson (Huntingtown, Md.) also smashed a UMBC record that she had previously owned this weekend, improving her 100 meter dash time to 11.51 seconds. The sophomore, who broke America East records in the 100 and 200 meter dash events at the 2013 conference championship, improved to 21st in the NCAA East Region.

Alexander Bowen (Beacon, N.Y.) of Albany and Stony Brook’s Christina Melian (Staten Island, N.Y.) were the other individual champions from the weekend. Bowen notched another gold in the high jump, as he continues an incredible season. The sophomore broke the America East record in his performance at the conference championships and won this weekend at Princeton by clearing 7’2.5”. Melian rounded out an impressive freshman campaign with a victory in the 3,000 meters. Her winning time of 9:48.97 edged out her competition by 0.71 seconds.
