Resetarits, Williams and Ratcliffe Collect Weekly Men's Lacrosse Accolades

Albany's Frank Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and Binghamton's Rob Williams (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) share America East Player of the Week honors for men's lacrosse, while Cayle Ratcliffe (Victoria, B.C./Western Reserve) has been named America East Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. The awards were announced on Monday (April 30).

Resetarits poured in a career-high seven goals and added one assist in a come-from-behind 15-14 victory over Dartmouth on April 24. He scored the game’s final three goals to erase a 14-12 deficit with 1:59 remaining. Resetarits tied the contest with less than one minute left and netted the game-winner with 6.5 seconds to play. He also had four goals in a 9-8 loss to Binghamton on April 28.

Williams scored a team-high three goals and added an assist in Binghamton’s 9-8 upset of No. 6 Albany on Saturday. He broke a 7-7 tie early in the fourth quarter with the goal that put the Bearcats ahead for good. In his last two games, Williams has scored seven goals.

Ratcliffe produced his seventh consecutive multi-goal game with a hat trick in the 13-5 win over Vermont. Ratcliffe leads the team with 31 goals and was the fourth-leading freshman goal scorer in the country entering the week. His 31 goals is the second-most for a Retriever freshman in UMBC’s NCAA Division I (1981) era.


Albany (12-2, 4-1 America East) will host the America East Conference Championship on May 3 and 5 at John Fallon Field... The Great Danes are the No. 1 seed for just the second time since joining the league in 2002... UAlbany has played in five consecutive tournament championship games, winning the title in 2003, 2004 and 2005... The Great Danes split a pair of one-goal decisions last week by defeating Dartmouth (15-14) and losing at Binghamton (9-8)... Frank Resetarits (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) scored a career-high seven goals, including three in the final two minutes, as his team reversed a 14-12 deficit against the Big Green on April 24... Resetarits, who has scored five-plus against seven opponents during his career, netted the game-winner with 6.5 seconds to play... Resetarits added four goals in the Binghamton loss to extend his consecutive game scoring streak to 45 straight, the second longest in the nation... Merrick Thomson (Stoney Creek, Ontario/Albany Academy) accounted for a season-high seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) against Dartmouth... Thomson has totaled five or more points on 23 occasions as a collegian... Resetarits and Thomson moved up to second and third, respectively, on the school’s all-time scoring list... Resetarits has 227 points (148G, 79A), while Thomson has 224 points (171G, 53A)... Jordan Levine (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) assisted on Resetarits’ final two goals against Dartmouth... Levine had five ground balls at Binghamton, the seventh time he has collected five-plus this season... Derek Dale (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem) has scored in every game this spring, including a career-high three assists vs. Dartmouth... sophomore Dan McKeon (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) made his second consecutive start at goalkeeper for the injured Brett Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) on April 28... McKeon has stopped 10 or more shots in his last three outings, including a career-high 13 against Dartmouth... Corey Small (St. Catharines, Ontario/Holy Cross) and Mike Ammann (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) are among six players with 20-plus points this season... The Great Danes rank second nationally in scoring offense at 13.29 goals per game.

Binghamton (4-8, 3-2 America East) upset No. 6 Albany 9-8 on Saturday, marking the highest-ranked team that the Bearcats have defeated in their six-year intercollegiate history. Prior to Saturday, the highest ranked squad the Bearcats beat was then No. 8 Towson, 7-6 in double overtime on March 4, 2006 ... senior attack Rob Williams (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) was named the America East Co-Player of the Week for April 23-39, marking the first time in his career that he has earned a weekly honor. He scored three goals and added an assist in the game against Albany. Over the past two games, Williams has scored seven goals and tallied an assist ... Binghamton is now 16-16 all time against America East Conference opponents. The past four years, the Bearcats are 14-7.

Hartford (2-13 overall, 1-4 America East) finished out its 2007 season with a 12-10 loss to Sacred Heart and a 20-12 loss at Vermont last week. The loss to the Catamounts knocked the Hawks out of contention for the final spot in the upcoming America East Championship... Senior Tom Harris (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and sophomore Dan Clough (Piedmont, Calif./Dematha) each finished the season with a team-best 20 points. Harris scored 11 goals and added nine assists while Clough scored seven goals and recorded a team-high 13 assists... Freshman Rob Steffens (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) and junior Brian Tilley (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./St. Anthony's) each finished with a team-best 14 goals on the season. Steffens also added three assists while Tilley finished with two... Sophomore Jon McMahon (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) started and played all 15 games in goal for the Hawks and finished with a 13.00 goals against average. He also made 163 saves, including a career-high 17 stops against Vermont in the season finale.

UMBC (9-4, 4-1 America East) ran its winning streak to five straight and earned a tie for the regular season America East Conference title with a convincing 13-5 win over host Stony Brook before 2,073 fans on the final contest of the regular season... The Retrievers improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in America East play... UMBC will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will face No. 3 Binghamton (4-8, 3-2) in the first semi-final game on Thursday, May 3... Junior Terry Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) led all scorers with four points, scoring three goals and adding an assist... Senior Andy Gallagher (Rockville, Md./DeMatha) and freshman Cayle Ratcliffe (Victoria, B.C./Western Reserve) added three goals each, while senior Drew Westervelt (2g, 1a) (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) and sophomore Alex Hopmann (1g, 2a) (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) each posted three points in a balanced attack... It is the third straight year that UMBC has won or shared the regular season league ...UMBC would go on a 7-1 run over a span of 10:35 to take a 7-3 advantage early in the second quarter... UMBC dominated the fourth quarter (5-0), as Gallagher scored a critical goal at the 9:56 mark, finishing a Terry Kimener feed. Then the younger Kimener redirected a Hopmann pass from the doorstep and gave UMBC a 10-5 advantage with 6:44 to play. ..The five goals allowed by UMBC is the fewest permitted this season... Sophomore netminder Jeremy Blevins (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall) was outstanding in the UMBC net, as he made 12 saves. UMBC committed only nine turnovers and outshot the Seawolves, 43-28... UMBC is not 8-4 all-time vs. the Seawolves and 18-4 all-time in America East Conference play... Ratcliffe’s 31 goals are the second-most for a Retriever freshman in UMBC’s NCAA Division I ( 1981) era... Head Coach Don Zimmerman needs one more win (99-88) to reach the 100-win plateau in his 14th year at UMBC... he is now 172-104 in 21 seasons overall.

Stony Brook (8-4, 2-3 America East) went 1-1 on the week to wrap up the regular season... The Seawolves clinched the fourth seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and will take on host Albany on Thursday evening... Against rival Hofstra on Tuesday, Owen Adams (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) netted the overtime winner with 1:49 left in the extra frame to give the Seawolves a 13-12 win... SB rallied from three-goals down on two separate occasions to grab the comeback victory... Adams finished with four goals, including the overtime winner and tally to send it to overtime with 10 seconds left in regulation... Ryan Hughes (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) netted three goals while Bobby Trenkle (Commack, N.Y./Commack) tacked on three assists... In the America East finale, despite jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead the No. 14 UMBC Retrievers topped SB, 13-5, on Saturday evening.... Larry Cerasi (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) was the lone Seawolf with multiple points as he netted a pair of goals in the game.

Vermont (4-10, 1-4 America East) exploded for a season high 20 goals on senior day at Moulton Winder Field in a 20-12 win over Hartford last Saturday... The game was the season finale for both teams... Junior Shay Cunningham (Southborough, Mass./Southborough) recorded a career high seven points on one goal and six assists... Senior Sean Layton (Wilmington, Mass./Malden Catholic) scored a team-high four goals and finished his career with 86 goals to move in to eighth place on Vermont’s all-time career goals list... Senior goalie Darryl Swarts (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) made 15 saves and finished the year with 194 saves... His 194 saves moved him into 10th place on Vermont’s all-time single-season saves list... Swarts also led America East in saves per game this season at 13.86... Senior Dan Zwirko (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) notched three goals in the win against the Hawks and finished the year as the team leader in points with 28 (19 goals and 9 assists)... Junior Andrew Pierson (Havre de Grace, Md./St Paul’s) added a hat trick in the win against Hartford... Senior Pete Hein (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) added two goals and finished the year with a team best 23 scores... His 23 goals ranked sixth best in America East... Senior Adam Kornuth (Denver, Colo./East) picked up one assist and finished the year with a team-high 14 assists... Sophomore Luke LaBranche (Cold Springs Harbor, N.Y./Hill School) went 21-for-31 on face offs and picked up a career high nine ground balls... Vermont has won four straight games against Hartford dating back to 2004.
