In this edition of "America East Online", the show profiles the latest stories and achievements of the America East Conference. America East Online is a 20-minute web-only show which features all nine of the conference's campuses and highlights athletics, academics and leadership.
The episode begins with a feature on the Hartford men's lacrosse program, which at 7-3, is off to its best start since the 2000 season. Head coach Peter Lawrence, senior defender Conor Flynn and junior midfielder Carter Bender discuss the confidence that exists throughout the program, as well as some of the keys to maintaining this high level of play throughout the rest of the season.
The next segment is an interview with Maine Athletic Director Steve Abbott. After serving as the department head over the past seven months, Abbott recently agreed to take over the position full-time. In the interview, Abbott discusses what it's like working in the city he grew up in, while also emphasizing some of the most important aspects of ensuring a bright future for Black Bear athletics.
The student-athlete profile this week features an interview with New Hampshire two-sport athlete Hayley Rausch. Rausch, a junior, plays field hockey in the fall and lacrosse in the spring for the Wildcats and excels at both sports. In the interview, Rausch discusses the correlation between the two sports and also talks about the challenge of balancing academics and athletics.
The episode concludes with the Best of U. series, which this week highlights the relationship between the women's lacrosse program and 'Bearcats Buddies'. This new initiative pairs a child who is battling cancer with one of the intercollegiate teams at Binghamton with the hopes of improving the quality of life for the child diagnosed with cancer. The segment features interviews with junior midfielder Allie Sabitus, head coach Tony Zostant and Assistant Director, Leadership/Student Services Kim King.
The show, hosted by America East's Max Mandel, will be available every other Wednesday throughout the rest of the academic year. Fans can watch the web show at the America East Zone on AmericaEast.com, as well as on the league's social media web sites such as YouTube and Facebook.
