Lyles' Dominant Performance Nets Week #7 #AEHoops Player of Week Honors

BOSTON - UMBC continued its best-ever Division I start posting a pair of wins last week. The Retrievers (9-3) set a program-record by scoring 120 points in a win over The Citadel on Monday. Here are the week #7 award winners:

Player of the Week
Jairus Lyles, UMBC - Jr., Guard, Silver Spring, Md.

  • Averaged 27 points and 13 rebounds in leading UMBC to a 2-0 week.
  • Became just 11th NCAA student-athlete and second guard in the last eight seasons to record a 30-point, 20-rebound game, scoring 32 points and grabbing 20 boards in a win over The Citadel Monday.
  • Scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds in a win at James Madison Friday.
  • This is his third career Player of the Week award (2/8/16, 11/21/16).

Rookie of the Week
Andrew Fleming, Maine - Fr., Forward, South Paris, Maine

  • Averaged a double-double of 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games last week.
  • Had 12 points and 11 rebounds at Providence on Monday.
  • Set new career highs with 23 points and 14 boards at Brown Wednesday.
  • This is Fleming's second Rookie of the Week award of the season (12/5).
