Matt Bourque was named Associate Commissioner at America East Conference on August 16, 2005 after serving the previous eight years as assistant commissioner. In his role as associate commissioner, Bourque oversees all external efforts including marketing and promotions, licensing, media relations and new media endeavors. He also directs the conference’s basketball operations, including scheduling and the administration of the America East Men’s Basketball Championship.
Bourque is responsible for the production of the America East Television Network, including the hiring on-air talent and securing clearances on national, regional and local affiliates (ESPN, New England Sports Network, Madison Square Garden Network, Fox Sports New York, Comcast SportsNet, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, Time-Warner Cable) for more than 20 games annually. He also serves as executive director of America East On Campus, a 30-minute television show which airs on regional sports networks throughout the America East footprint.
Prior to his role as associate commissioner, Bourque served as assistant commissioner for communications at America East where he oversaw the conference’s media relations and public relations endeavors since 1997.
A 1989 graduate of the University of Maine, an America East charter member, Bourque served one year as assistant sports information director at his alma mater before becoming sports information director in 1990. His work was cited by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) numerous times, including in 1993 when his essay of the Black Bear ice hockey team’s national championship was named “Best in the Nation” in the feature writing category.
Bourque is also an instructor in the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University where he teaches classes in the Master’s in Sports Leadership program.
