CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Twenty track & field student-athletes, 17 of which were all-conference honorees in 2010, have been selected to the America East Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Academic teams as was announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. These student athletes, who excel both academically as well as athletically, represent the best of the America East Conference.

The men’s selections were University at Albany’s Valete Graham (Bronx, N.Y.) and Peter Rowell (Scotia, N.Y.), Binghamton University’s Robb Quiller (West Point, N.Y.), Boston University’s Mark Mazzochette (Cherry Hill, N.J.), University of Maine’s Christopher Harmon (Scarborough, Maine), UMBC’s Michael Christmas (Invercargill, New Zealand), University of New Hampshire’s Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.), Stony Brook University’s Alex Felce (Stroud, England) and University of Vermont’s Jared Alvord (Plainfield, Mass.) and Sam Hoadley (East Granby, Conn.).

The women’s selections were Albany’s Fey Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y.) and Laura Cummings (Bay Shore, N.Y.), University of Hartford’s Ariana Bass (Penacook, N.H.) and Kaycee Martinez (South Yarmouth, Mass.), Maine’s Corey Conner (Townsend, Mass.), New Hampshire’s Rita Ciambra (Hanover, N.H.), Megan Donohue (Stratham, N.H.) and Kaitlyn Dugan (Hatfield, Pa.) and Stony Brook University’s Holly and Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand).

The All-Academic squads are a product of the June 2005 Athletics Directors meeting where faculty representatives and athletics directors from each of the conference’s nine member institutions decided to honor the league’s top student-athletes, who excel equally in the classroom as they do on the playing field.

For the second straight year, America East will select the All-Academic teams using CoSIDA’s Academic All-America program as a model. Student-athletes worthy of consideration are nominated by member sports information directors and voted on by a committee of SIDs, academic advisers and faculty representatives from all nine member institutions.

All-Academic squads for team sports are based on the number of athletes that participate in a contest at one time, or 10 for individual sports (ex. track & field, swimming & diving, etc.) but can be more if there is a tie in voting. To be nominated for the distinction, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve for their team and participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s games or competitions. In the classroom, student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA and have completed at least one calendar year at their institution. Freshmen are not eligible for consideration.
