Pete
Estes joined the America East staff for the 2011-12 year as the Communications
Intern. Estes' primary responsibilities are serving as the media relations
contact for cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field, swimming &
diving and tennis, daily maintenance of www.AmericaEast.com and assisting the
communications staff with new initiatives.
Estes graduated from St. Michael's College in May
2011 with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communications. He was
named the journalism department's top scholar in the class of 2011.
Before the America East Conference, Estes was a
sports intern at WCAX-TV Channel 3 in Burlington, Vt., covering local high
schools and conference member University of Vermont. Prior to Channel 3, he
served as an intern at the New England Sports Network (NESN) assisting with pre
and post game coverage of Boston Red Sox baseball. He also interned with the
Vermont Lake Monsters (Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics) and with
the Bennington Bombers (now Albany Dutchmen in the PGCBL)
During his time at St. Michael's, the Bennington,
Vt., native spearheaded an effort to get Purple Knight sports on the air for
the 2010-2011 seasons. He served as the primary play-by-play announcer for
webcasts of men's and women's basketball and men's ice hockey contests. Estes
also spent time as the sports editor for the college's award-winning student
newspaper, The Defender. He was
awarded the College's George 'Doc' Jacobs Award, presented annually to the student
who makes a truly outstanding contribution to Purple Knight Athletics.
Estes was also a four-year member of the St.
Michael's baseball team, earning CoSIDA
Academic All-District Second Team honors as a senior.
Estes currently resides in Arlington, Mass.
