Mary Mulvenna joined the America East staff in December, 2011 as the Assistant Commissioner for Compliance after spending the previous six years in a similar
position at the Missouri Valley Conference.
“We are pleased that Mary Mulvenna has agreed to join the America East
Conference staff,” said Huchthausen. “She has extensive conference
office experience, has served on national committees and has developed a
strong national network that will greatly assist our league. I’m
extremely excited about the immediate and long-term contributions she’ll
make to our membership and the conference office and am thrilled that
she’ll be part of our team moving forward.”
Mulvenna will serve as the primary liaison to the
league’s nine member institutions in the areas of compliance and
student-athlete welfare. She will head up the conference’s compliance
program including the facilitation of education efforts, rules
interpretations, compliance reviews and waivers and will oversee will
the NCAA Special Assistance Fund, Student-Athlete Advisory Fund,
National Letter of Intent and Coaches Certification Programs for the
conference. Additionally, Mulvenna will direct the conference’s
community service programs and initiatives, coordinate all legislative
and governance activities for the conference, act as a primary liaison
to membership on APR issues and have sport oversight. She will also work
with various conference committees, including the Board of Presidents,

Administrators, Academic Advisors and the Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee.
“This opportunity with the America East is a perfect fit for me,” said
Mulvenna. “The conference has great new leadership, and I’m excited to
be a part of it. Commissioner Huchthausen has great energy and vision,
and I’m certainly honored to be able to join the America East staff. “
Having gained experience working at two other Division I conferences,
Mulvenna most recently served as the Assistant Commissioner of
Compliance & Community Relations for the Missouri Valley Conference.
There, she was on the conference’s senior management team and
influenced the Missouri Valley’s strategic plan with the primary
responsibility of conveying the student-athlete and national perspective
to the group. Mulvenna has acted as the league’s primary liaison to the
conference’s compliance administrators and provided the group with
guidance and feedback on interpretive issues. She has also represented
the Missouri Valley on various NCAA committees including Legislative
Council, the Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet and the
Legislative Review and Interpretations Committee.
In addition to her compliance duties, Mulvenna was the conference’s
primary sport administrator for men’s and women’s soccer as well as
swimming and diving. She was the main liaison to those coaches groups,
ran those conference championships and developed league schedules.
Mulvenna also supervised the Missouri Valley’s Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee and mentored the current Division I National SAAC President.
Prior to joining the Missouri Valley, Mulvenna spent two years as a
compliance assistant at the Ivy League, where she provided assistance
and oversight to the membership’s compliance administrators. She also
coordinated the Coaches Certification Programs for the league, worked
with the conference’s SAAC and was a member of the league’s
Sportsmanship Committee.
Mulvenna began her career in college administration as a compliance
graduate extern at Temple University, her alma mater. In her two years
working at Temple, Mulvenna assisted in the eligibility certification
program, monitored student-athlete employment, maintained squad lists,
coordinated rules education meetings for department coaches and staff,
monitored academic progress of student athletes and tracked recruiting
procedures for each sport.
A standout women’s soccer student-athlete for the Owls, Mulvenna
received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Temple, earning
the former in Sport and Recreation Management in 2001 and the latter in
Sports Administration in 2003.
