STATEMENT FROM AMERICA EAST COMMISSIONER AMY HUCHTHAUSEN

“Boston University president Robert Brown informed me by phone Thursday afternoon of BU’s decision to join the Patriot League. The conference wishes BU well in its future.

America East remains committed to broad-based, competitive athletics programs, which complement the academic integrity and missions of our member institutions. As with many conferences, we have been actively engaged in conversations regarding membership for some time. We will continue those discussions with our presidents, but, consistent with our philosophy, will do so in a confidential manner and will not discuss specific institutions.

America East traces its history back more than three decades. We have celebrated a National Champion in track and field this season and Stony Brook’s unprecedented run to the College World Series. We are proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes and our schools, which consistently rank among the NCAA leaders in APR and GSR. We look forward to more accomplishments in the future.”
