CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Two standout performers from the opening weekend of conference play are this week's America East men's soccer award winners. The honorees for the week ending Sept. 30 were announced Monday morning.

Jake Keegan propelled Binghamton to a win with his overtime goal to earn Player of the Week accolades, while Hartford's Vitsu Tuumi tallied a career high in saves in a tie against Boston U. to garner Rookie of the Week recognition.

Keegan (Stormville, N.Y.) picked up his second career weekly honor by scoring the game winner 6:14 into overtime in the Bearcats' 2-1 win over New Hampshire on Saturday. The senior forward, who leads America East and ranks among the nation's best with 21 points on nine goals and three assists, one-timed a pass from Robbie Hughes into the back of the net to give the Bearcats their third win in their last four games. Keegan, who tallied five shots in the game, has three game winners on the season. He previously earned America East Player of the Week honors on Oct. 4, 2010.

Tuumi (Pori, Finland) was the primary reason Hartford earned a point via its 1-1 double-overtime tie at Boston U. on Saturday. The freshman goalkeeper made a career-high nine saves, which tied the conference's season high, including six in the game's final 65 minutes, to hold off the Terriers, which outshot the Hawks 35-11 and 25-5 after the break. Tuumi has played every minute in net this season for the Hawks and has a 1.24 goals-against average, which ranks fifth in the league.

In other America East action on Saturday, Stony Brook and Vermont each posted wins to start conference play 1-0 and extend their win streaks to six games. The Seawolves, who are 5-0-1 in that stretch, beat Albany, 1-0, on Leonardo Fernandes' seventh goal of the season, while Catamounts, who are 3-0-3 in their last six games, scored twice in a 73-second span during the game's final 10 minutes to beat UMBC, 2-1.

Conference play resumes on Friday when Stony Brook hosts Boston University in a matchup of last year's America East champion and regular-season champion. The other three games will take place Saturday as Albany hosts Binghamton, New Hampshire welcomes UMBC and Vermont entertains Hartford.
