Caringi III Named ECAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, 2 Others Honored
Four America East men's soccer standouts received accolades from the ECAC Thursday, including UMBC's Pete Caringi III, who was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year in a vote of the region's head coaches. Caringi, the America East Striker of the Year, led the league and ranks among the nation's best with 14 goals and 32 points. Caringi was also named one of 12 Division I All-Stars along with America East's Midfielder and Defender of the Year in Stony Brook's Leonardo Fernandes and UMBC's Liam Paddock, respectively.
Three America East Hoops Teams Ranked in Mid-Major Top 25, 4 Others Getting Votes
University at Albany men and University of Hartford and Boston University women are ranked in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Basketball Top 25. The Great Danes, who are off to a 7-2 start and have won four straight, are ranked 25th in the men's poll. The Hawks, who are 6-1, are 10th in the women's poll, while the Terriers, who are 6-2 and beat 15th-ranked St. John's last weekend, are 21st in the women's poll. Three Standouts Tabbed Women's Lacrosse Preseason All-American
A trio of America East women's lacrosse standouts have been recognized among the best college players in the nation. Inside Lacrosse named Boston University's Danielle Estrasco, University at Albany's Ariana Parker and Stony Brook's Claire Peterson to its Faceoff Yearbook All-America East squad this week. Estrasco earned second-team honors, while Parker and Peterson were third-team honorees. All three were first-team All-America East honorees last season and Petersen was the Player of the Year.
Estrasco Named U.S. National Team Training Roster
On top of being named a preseason All-American, Etrasco was named to the U.S. Women’s National Training Team roster by U.S. Lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon. The team was selected from the standing 38-player roster comprising the 2012-14 U.S. Women’s National Team. Etrasco is the first Boston U. women’s lacrosse player to make it this far in the Team USA selection process. The Massapequa, N.Y., native had a career year for the Terriers in 2012, scoring a career-high 58 goals and totaled a career best 80 points en route to being named an IWLCA All-American. Two Great Danes Tabbed Men's Lacrosse Preseason All-Americans
Brothers Miles and Lyle Thompson were both selected to Inside Lacrosse's Faceoff Yearbook preseason All-America squad as honorable mention selections. Miles, a second-team All-America East choice last year, ranked second among league leaders in points, racking up 36 goals and 25 assists. Lyle earned All-Rookie accolades after tying for fifth with 26 goals.
