Caringi Tabbed Men's Soccer Fans' Choice Player of Year
Caringi, a junior forward, received 41 percent (284 votes) to earn the honor. He finished just 11 votes ahead of University of New Hampshire's Jordan Thomas, who garnered 39 percent of the total vote.
The conference's leading scorer, Caringi has racked up 32 points on 14 goals and four assists so far this season. He has been on a tear of late, scoring nine goals in his last five goals to lead UMBC to five straight wins and the No. 2 seed for the America East Championship. A three-time conference Player of the Week, nine of Caringi's scores and 21 of the points came in America East games, both the fifth-most in league history and most by any player since 2003 and 2001, respectively.
This is the fourth straight year America East has given out a Fans' Choice Player of the Year award in men's soccer with Binghamton University's Jason Stenta (2009), Boston University's Ben Berube (2010) and University at Albany's Adrian Foncette earning the first three honors.
Voting for the 2012 award ran from October 24-30 with one player from each member institution named to the ballot. The America East All-Conference teams will be announced via release at AmericaEast.com at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
