CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Less than a week removed from claiming its first America East women's soccer title in program history, Stony Brook will make the trip to College Park, Md., for a match-up with No. 4 seed University of Maryland on Saturday, November 10 at 7 p.m.
The Seawolves defeated No. 1 seed Hartford, 1-0, in the title game to become the first No. 6 seed to ever win the America East Championship and the second team seeded No. 6 or lower in any sport to win an America East title. The UMBC women's basketball team was the other, winning the conference tournament as a No. 7 seed in 2007.
America East teams are 11-22 all-time in the NCAA Championship, with Boston University advancing to the second round of the tournament last year. America East programs have advanced to the second round 10 times since 1991.
Stony Brook and Maryland have met twice previously in 2006 and 2010. The Terrapins took 2-0 victories in both of those contests.
The Terrapins went 13-6-2 this season and advanced to the ACC
Championship final, where they fell to Virginia. This is Maryland's 13th
all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and fourth consecutive.
Live stats are available to follow along with the contest. The winner will face the winner of the Denver-Colorado College match.
