Boston U. Hosts GW on NESN in 1 of 5 Games Saturday; Hartford Grabs 1st Win Friday
Five America East men's hoops teams take the floor on Saturday, including Boston University, which will have its game vs. Northeastern televised throught the Northeast region.
The Terriers (0-2), who beat the Colonials in their last meeting in 2010, will tip off at 1 p.m. on NESN and Comcast Sport Net Mid Atlantic. Preseason all-conference choice D.J. Irving led the Terriers with 20 points, his fourth career 20-point effort. He’s tied for the league lead averaging 19.0 points through two games.
Also on Saturday, New Hampshire (2-0) looks to improve to 3-0 for the second time in three years when it visits Bryant at 1 p.m. Albany (2-1), which is coming off a 63-62 win at Washington Tuesday, plays UMKC in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off at Mohegan Sun at 2:30 p.m. Maine (0-2) looks for its first win when it hosts Brown in its home opener at 7 p.m. and Vermont (1-1) tries to get over .500 when it visits Northeastern, also at 7 p.m.
On Friday, Hartford (1-2) picked up its first win of the year, a 62-47 win over Sacred Heart, by holding the Pioneers to just 47 points, its best defensive effort since limiting Albany to 42 points on Jan. 9, 2011. Hartford’s bench outscored SHU’s 29-11 and were led by Wes Cole’s 14 points and Evan Cooper’s 11.
Also Friday, Binghamton (0-4) scored a season-high 76 points and shot a season-best 51 percent from the field but fell to 0-4 with an 85-76 loss at Army. Jordan Reed led the Bearcats for the second straight game, scoring a career-best 18 points.
