CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Two players that led their teams to wins last week are this week's America East men's basketball weekly award winners. The honorees for the week ending Nov. 18 were announced Monday afternoon.
University at Albany's Jacob Iati averaged a league-best 18.3 points per game last week to earn his second career Player of the Week honor while Binghamton University's Jordan Reed averaged a double-double and set a program rebounding record to take home Rookie of the Week accolades.
Iati (York, Pa.) led the Great Danes to two wins in three games last week, including a victory over a Pac-12 program, to earn Player of the Week accolades. The graduate student guard, who also earned Player of the Week recognition on Feb. 17, 2012, scored 20 points by canning six three-pointers in the Great Danes' 63-62 win at Washington Tuesday, their first over a BCS-conference program. Iati then had a career and game-high 24 points to lead Albany to a 62-59 win over UMKC Saturday. He wrapped up his week by tallying 11 points, three rebounds and a pair of assists points in a loss to Loyola Sunday. For the week, Iati shot 53 percent from the floor (16-for-30) and 57 percent from three-point land (12-for-21). He ranks fourth among league leaders averaging 15.3 points per game and is tied for third in the nation with 16 made three-point field goals.
Reed (Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged a double-double of 16.7 points and 12.3 rebounds over three games last week, including a win over previously unbeaten St. Peter's on Sunday, to take home Rookie of the Week recognition. The freshman guard had his best performance against the Peacocks, tallying 17 points and a Division I program-record 18 rebounds. Reed, who led his team in scoring and rebounding in each of its three games last week, had a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds in a loss at Navy on Wednesday, then had a career-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds at Army Friday.
