Four America East Standouts Tabbed Field Hockey All-Americans

Release: 11/20/2012

Four America East field hockey standouts have been named All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) after their exceptional play throughout the season.

University at Albany's Jessica Longstreth and Boston University's Ella Gunson of Boston U. were selected to the second team, while University of New Hampshire’s Megan Bozek and Boston U.’s Jacinda McLeod received Third Team honors. The conference is well represented for the second straight year, after having five NFHCA All-Americans in 2011.

Longstreth (Richboro, Pa.) led the conference in assists this season with 17 and was fifth in the country in assists per game (.81). A graduate student, Longstreth was named America East Player of the Week in back to back weeks this season, as she helped Albany capture its third title in five years. The midfielder was a unanimous First-Team All-Conference selection.

Gunson (Whangarei, New Zealand) is the first Boston U. player to garner All-American honors in her first year with the program. The junior transfer was fourth in the conference in assists with seven while also racking up nine goals. Both totals led the Terriers, as Gunson went on to be named the America East Midfielder of the Year.

Bozek (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) was the America East Defensive Player of the Year, serving as the anchor for the Wildcats. The junior back had four defensive saves on the season, which led the conference and ranked 13th in the country. Bozek’s selection makes it four straight years that New Hampshire has had an NFCHA All-American.

McLeod (Whangarei, New Zealand) achieved All-American honors for the second straight year, after earning a Second-Team nod a season ago. The senior back had three game-winning-goals for the Terriers, as she was First-Team All-Conference for the fourth straight season. McLeod is just the second player in conference history to accomplish this feat.

The four All-Americans are in addition to the 16 All-Region choices that were announced last week. In all, 125 America East student-athletes across all sports have been named All-Americans since the start of the 2007-08 academic year.
