The two teams met in the America East Championship game last year, with Albany beating Stony Brook, 9-7. It was the second-straight trip to the NCAA Championship for the Great Danes, who finished 2012 with a 12-6 overall record.

Notable returners for the Great Danes are senior midfielder Jess Antelmi, senior attacker Rachael Burek, junior attacker Ariana Parker, and junior goalkeeper Anna Berman. Parker returns as an America East Conference First Team selection and both Antelmi and Burek return as Second Team selections.

Among the Stony Brook returners for 2013 are America East Player of the Year and third-team IWLCA All-American Claire Petersen and first-team All-America East players Demmianne Cook, Janine Hillier, Michelle Rubino, Melissa Rotante and Frankie Caridi.

Stony Brook is led by head coach Joe Spallina, who is in his second season at the helm. In his first year, Spallina orchestrated the nation's best turnaround, leading the Seawolves to a program-record 14 wins after the team had only four victories in 2011. Spallina's Seawolves reached the America East Championship final for the first time in program history and recorded their first-ever win over a nationally ranked opponent, a 15-14 victory over Johns Hopkins.
