CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a week off for America East schools, teams took to the pools once again as the 2012-13 season continues. A pair of Binghamton Bearcats had an excellent week, as freshman Brian McKenna and sophomore Devin Zdanowski made the most of the team’s two meets, claiming Male Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively. On the women’s side, Vermont sophomore Ilsa Feierabend had a record-breaking weekend en route to the Female Swimmer of the Week award, while Maine junior Kara Capossela had a solid weekend on the boards to claim the Diver of the Week honors.

McKenna (Flushing, N.Y.) won three times on the week to bump his season win total up to five. The first-year swimmer won the 50 free in 21.22 seconds versus Bucknell before winning both the 50 (21.45) and 100 (48.44) free versus Canisius. McKenna also swam a leg for the 200 free relay squad which won against Canisius en route to setting a pool record. His standout performance helped Binghamton to its first team win of the season over Bucknell. He is also the owner of the top 50 free time in the conference this season.

Zdanowski (Brighton, N.Y.) was dominant on the boards for Binghamton’s two meets on the week. The sophomore swept both events against Bucknell and then again versus Canisius. His score of 282.60 in the one-meter diver versus Canisius is a personal best for him on the season and the second-best score in the conference this season. He also averaged a 278.44 on the three-meter boards across the two meets.

Feierabend (Madison, Wis.) set four pool records at the Central Connecticut Invitational. Two of those records came in relay victories, as the sophomore swam a leg in the 200 free and 400 medley relays as Vermont won and set a new top time in the process. Feierabend also set a pool record with her 100 backstroke leg in the 400 medley relay with a time of 57.79. In addition to those two victories, she also lent a hand to the winning 200 medley relay quartet and tacked on two individual victories of her own. In the 100 back, Feierabend shattered her own pool record, which was set earlier in the day, touching the wall in just 57.63 second. To cap off the weekend, she won the 200 back with a time of 2:02.81. Her efforts led Vermont to a win at the Central Connecticut Invitational, as the Catamounts scored 1,912 points.

Capossela (Greenwich, Conn.) had a solid weekend on the boards as Maine finished fourth at the URI Invitational. In the three-meter dive, the junior registered a score of 243.25 en route to a victory, while earning a 248.00 in the one-meter dive, which was good for second-place. Capossela’s score in the one-meter is now the fourth-best conference score in that event this season. She is also the owner of the second best three-meter dive score on the year.

Elsewhere around the conference, five of the six schools saw action this week. Binghamton’s women had a win and a loss on the week, with the win coming against Canisius. Corinne Zotter (Vestal, N.Y.) swept the backstroke events and swam a leg for the winning 200 medley relay quartet. The men from Maine took home first-place at the URI Invitational, led by Eric Gaulin (Northport, Maine), who won the 100 butterfly and took third in the 200 fly. The New Hampshire women took sixth at the Brown Invitational as Katie Mann (Prince George, British Columbia) had a strong weekend, breaking a school record and achieving the NCAA provisional cut in the 200 breaststroke. Boston U. and UMBC had the week off.
