Albany, Vermont Men's Hoops Teams Earn Wins Wednesday
Behind seven three-pointers from Jacob Iati, University at Albany pushed its win streak to six games on Wednesday and improved to 9-2 on the season with a win over South Carolina State. Also Wednesday, Vermont beat Dartmouth, while Hartford and UMBC fell to Niagara and Coppin State, respectively.
Albany (9-2) got 21 points from Iati, the nation's leader with 41 made three-pointers on the season, and 18 from Mike Black in its 70-61 win over South Carolina State. The Great Danes improved to 9-2, its best-ever 11-game start at the Division I level.
Vermont (6-3) posted its second-straight win, a 52-50 victory over Dartmouth. Luke Apfeld sank a pair of free throws with 30 seconds left to seal the Catamounts' second-straight win. Clancy Rugg paced UVM with 15 points while Apfelf and Trey Blue each had 13.
Hartford (5-5) fell for the just the second time in six games as the Purple Eagles used a 39-15 run bridging the first and second halves to grab a 75-59 win. Mark Nwakamma led Hartford with 14 points.
UMBC (2-9) fell to Coppin State, 80-61, as the Eagles hit their first eight shots and jumped out to a 23-10 lead en route to the win. Brett Roseboro had a double-double of 15 points and 10 boards for the Retrievers.
