CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Two of America East's young stars had impressive performances to earn this week's men's basketball weekly awards. The winners for the week ending Dec. 23 were announced Monday afternoon.

University of Maine's Justin Edwards recorded a double-double to lead his team to a win over Florida Gulf Coast Saturday to earn Player of the Week honors, while Stony Brook's University's Jameel Warney averaged 17 points and six rebounds in a pair of games to take home Rookie of the Week accolades for the fourth time already this season.

Edwards (Whitby, Ontario) stuffed the stat sheet with 27 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals in Maine's win of FGCU to become the league's first multiple Player of the Week this season. Edwards, who also earned the award on Dec. 3,  shot 9-of-14 from the field to pace the Black Bears over the Eagles, who knocked off Miami earlier this season and have an RPI of 75. The sophomore guard leads the conference averaging 17.9 points per game.

Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) led Stony Brook to a 1-1 week, scoring 17 points in both games and averaging six boards and three blocks to pick up his second straight Rookie of the Week honor and fourth of the season. The freshman forward began his week by contributing 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting, eight boards and three blocks in a 64-59 win at Sacred Heart Tuesday. He then had 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, four boards and three blocks as the Seawolves nearly knocked off Maryland Friday. For the season, Warney is averaging 12.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game and ranks seventh nationally shooting 64.7 percent from the field.
