Albany, Boston U. Look to Continue Winning Ways Saturday
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Four America East women's basketball games fill the Saturday schedule with several important early season matchups.
Things get started with a noon tip when UMBC (5-11, 1-2) visits Vermont (4-11, 1-1). Four teams are bunched up with 1-2 records in conference play, including the Retrievers who try to get back to .500 after suffering a one-point setback at New Hampshire. In that game, Bria White reset her career high with 22 points to lead UMBC. Vermont is coming off a road loss to Boston U and has been tough at home, posting a 4-1 record at Patrick Gymnasium.
Red hot Boston U. (13-3, 3-0) looks to extend its winning streak to 11 at home against Binghamton (2-14, 1-2) at 1 p.m. The Terriers are tied for the fourth-longest winning streak in the nation and are off to the best start for any America East team since Hartford was 27-3 in 2009-10. Binghamton has lost back-to-back games since beating Hartford in the team's opener. The Bearcats are 1-7 on the road this season.
Hartford (10-6, 1-2) snapped its three-game losing streak on Wednesday with a win at Maine, but faces a tough task in Stony Brook (10-6, 2-1) at Chase Arena at 2 p.m. The Seawolves reached the 10-win plateau for the first time since 2009-10, and the team's next win will get them their most wins since going 18-11 in 2006-07.
Albany (11-3, 2-0) plays just its fifth home game of the season when the Great Danes host Maine (1-14, 0-2) for a 5 p.m. tip. The Black Bears are 0-8 on the road this season, while Albany is 3-1 at SEFCU Arena. The Great Danes have won their first two America East contests by an average of 39.5 points per game, with preseason all-conference selection averaging 20 points per game in two league contests.
