Boston U.ís Alford, Maineís Wood Earn Womenís Basketball Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Boston University senior Chantell Alford became the seventh Terriers in 11 weeks to earn America East Player of the Week honors, while Maine's Liz Wood was named Rookie of the Week the conference office announced Monday.

Alford (West Haven, Conn.) earned her fifth Player of the Week honor and the seventh for a Boston University player after averaging 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Alford also connected on eight 3-pointers on 16 attempts, becoming Boston University's program record-holder for career made 3-pointers with 220. The senior led the Terriers to a 2-0 week, starting with 21 points, five rebounds and two steals while shooting 5-of-9 from 3-point range in a win at Maine. She followed that with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in a win at New Hampshire. For the week, she was third in the conference in scoring, fifth in steals and first in 3-pointers made.

Wood (Catlett, Va.) had a career week to earn her third Rookie of the Week honor this season. The freshman averaged 17 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, while also shooting 52.2-percent from the floor and 88.9-percent from the free throw line in a pair of losses for the Black Bears. Wood started the week with a double-double, scoring a career-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to go with two steals and two assists in a loss to Boston U. She then broke that career-high with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe in a loss to Binghamton. Wood also had nine rebounds and six assists against the Bearcats.
