Three America East Players Selected in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Three America East men's soccer players were selected in the 2013 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft on Tuesday afternoon.
Boston University's Michael Bustamante wasthe 13th overall selection in the first round of the supplemental draft by the New York Red Bulls. Bustamamente was just the fourth-ever four-time America East First Team All-Conference selection.
Binghamton's Jake Keegan was taken in the third round with the 43rd overall pick by the Philadelphia Union. Keegan tied for the league lead during the conference regular season with nine goals.
Stony Brook's Leo Fernandes was taken in the fourth round with the 62nd overall pick, also by the Philadelphia Union. Ferdandes was the conference’s first-ever three-time Midfielder of the Year and just the second to win any major award three years in a row. He ranked second among league leaders in points (22), tied for third in goals (8) and is second in assists (6). Fernandes, who served as focal point of an offense that ranked second in the conference scoring 1.69 goals per contest, earned America East Player of the Week honors on Sept. 17.
