A few teams can lay their claim to first place in America East's men's basketball standings Wednesday just one day after Maine knocked Vermont out of first with its win over the Catamounts Tuesday.
Tonight, Albany (16-4, 5-1 AE) and keep its hold on sole possiession of the top spot when it hosts Boston U. (9-10, 3-3 AE) at 7 p.m. Both teams enter the day playing well with the Great Danes riding a four-game win streak and the Terriers having won four of their last five.
Should the Great Danes fall, Stony Brook (13-5, 4-1 AE) could move into first win a win when it heads to UMBC (4-14, 2-3 AE) for a 7 p.m. contest. The Seawolves had their five-game win streak snapped last time out, while the Retrievers have won two of their last three.
On Tuesday, Maine (8-11, 3-3 AE) snapped a three-game losing skid with a 71-68 victory over Vermont (12-7, 5-2 AE). The Black Bears held the Catamounts to just 31 percent shooting in the second half to overcome a nine-point deficit. Justin Edwards scored 15 of his 22 points after halftime and Alasdair Fraser almost had a triple double, going for 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Clancy Rugg tallied a career-best 22 points for UVM.
