Brenton's Triple-Double, Watson's Stellar Play Net Men's Hoops Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- A pair standouts that led their teams to 2-0 weeks are America East's men's basketball weekly award winners for the week ending Jan. 27. The winners were announced on Monday afternoon.

Stony Brook's Tommy Brenton recorded the league's first triple-double in nearly eight years and averaged a double-double in wins over UMBC and Maine to earn Player of the Week accolades, while Boston University's Maurice Watson had his first 20-plus point game and racked up 13 assists in wins over Albany and UMBC to take home Rookie of the Week recognition.

Brenton (Columbia, Md.) averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals last week to take home his second career Player of the Week honor. The senior forward contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the win over the Retrievers Wednesday. He then recorded the Stony Brook's first-ever triple-double and the first in America East since Northeastern's Shawn James  on Feb. 27, 2005 by racking up 15 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in the Seawolves' win over Maine Saturday. Brenton also pulled down his 1,000th career rebound against the Black Bears, becoming the conference's eight player to accomplish the feat.

Watson (Philadelphia, Pa.) averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 assists and had a 4.3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio last week to earn his second Rookie of the Week award of the season. The freshman point guard had the best game of his young career in the Terriers' win over Albany on Wednesday, scoring a career-high 21 points while dishing out seven assists. He then had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in the win over UMBC Saturday.
