Play 4Kay is an opportunity for a
nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on
the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The official charity is
the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation and Women's
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Help the Kay Yow Cancer Fund reach the fundraising goal of
$1 million. Coach Yow's Play 4Kay goal was to one day raise $5 million through the February
initiative. To her it was simple - 5,000 participants raising $1,000 each
totaling to $5M. Last year we raised $650,000, this year the Kay Yow Cancer Fund wants to reach the
$1M milestone.
HISTORY
The late Kay Yow, former NC State
University head women's basketball coach, served as the catalyst for Play 4Kay
after her third recurrence of breast cancer in 2006. Yow was first diagnosed
with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009.
Since 2006, thousands have joined Coach Yow's team in the fight against breast
cancer and raised over $1.5 million for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
