Three New York Natives Earn America East Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Stony Brook senior Demmianne Cook scored 18 goals in three games to lead the Seawolves to a 3-0 week and earn America East Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday.

A pair of goalies also were honored, as UMBC’s Kendall Mason earned Defensive Player of the Week and Binghamton’s Erin McNulty was named Rookie of the Week.

Cook (East Northport, N.Y.) led the Stony Brook in scoring in three wins for the Seawolves last week and led the conference by averaging 6.00 goals and 6.00 points per game. She was a factor on both ends of the field, also notching eight draw controls vs. Iona which is tied for the eighth-best single-game performance in Stony Brook history. Cook had a .692 shooting percentage for the week and also averaged 1.67 ground balls and 1.67 caused turnovers per game. She moved into sole possession of fourth all-time at Stony Brook in career goals with 115, passing Melissa Cook, who scored 112 goals from 2008-11. Cook also tied Samantha Dhaja for fifth all-time in career draw controls with 100 controlled draws.

Mason (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.) earned a pair of victories on the week after allowing a conference-best 4.31 goals per game. The senior made a season-high 10 stops against the Terriers on Saturday, including eight in the opening half to keep UMBC within striking distance. She also led the conference last week with a .625 save percentage and had four ground balls and one caused turnover.

McNulty (Holbrook,, N.Y.) picked up first collegiate win against Siena, matching a season-high with 10 saves as Binghamton defeated Siena 10-7. The freshman helped the Bearcats snap a 14-game losing streak dating back to last season. She also had a season high two caused turnovers and three ground balls from goalie position. McNulty allowed a season low 7 goals in 60 minutes and her .588 save percentage was a season high (10 saves, 17 shots on goal).
