CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Maine junior Eric White led Maine to a series win over Binghamton, helping the Black Bears clinch their first America East baseball regular-season title since 2002 on his way to being named Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Joining White in the weekly awards were a pair of UMBC Retrievers in junior Mac Gill, who earned Pitcher of the Week, and freshman Kevin LaChance, who was named Rookie of the Week.

White (Brewer, Maine) went 7-for-13 in the series against Binghamton to rank third in the conference last week with a .538 average. The third baseman had three extra-base hits including two doubles in a home run as he led the America East with four RBI. He finished the weekend with a .923 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. White drove in a pair of runs in the 10th inning of Maine’s extra-inning and regular-season clinching 13-7 win over Binghamton in the series finale. He also was a perfect 10-for-for on fielding changes and 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.

Gill (Bethesda, Md.) threw a complete-game, limiting Hartford to one unearned run on four hits as UMBC beat the Hawks 3-1 in the opener. The junior went the distance for his fourth-straight start, totaling now five complete games on the year. He struck out three batters without issuing a walk and held Hartford to a .178 average and did not allow an extra-base hit.

LaChance (Clifton, Va.) led all America East rookies last week with a .474 batting average to go with a .545 on-base percentage and a .579 slugging percentage. The shortstop had hits in four of UMBC’s five games last week including three multi-hit performances. LaChance had four hits and an RBI in the Retrievers’ win at Coppin State. He had two hits in UMBC’s series opening win over Hartford including an RBI and a walk. His seven-game hitting streak came to an end in the next game but he was able to draw a pair of walks.
