CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Stony Brook University defeated the University of Hartford, 10-3, on the final day of the America East baseball regular-season to clinch the fourth and final spot in the 2013 America East Baseball Championship and round out the field on Saturday afternoon in Hartford, Conn.

The Seawolves, who will enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed, join No. 1 seed Maine, No. 2 Binghamton and No. 3 Albany as the participants in the 2013 America East Baseball Championship to be held at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass., May 22-24 with an if necessary game on May 25.

No. 1 Maine will play No. 4 Stony Brook in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday, May 22 at 4 p.m., followed by No. 2 Binghamton vs. No. 3 Albany at 8 p.m.

Maine (34-20, 20-9) won its first America East regular-season title since 2002 and notched its best conference record since 2001 to earn the No. 1 seed in the America East Championship. The Black Bears No. 1 starting pitcher, Tommy Lawrence, broke the America East record with eight wins in conference play as Maine led the conference in both team batting average (.307) and team ERA (3.68).

Binghamton (27-22, 16-13) earned its highest finish since winning the regular-season title in 2010, using a 10-3 win over Albany on the final day of the regular season to lock-up the No. 2 seed. The Bearcats boast one of the top offensive threats in Jake Thomas, who led the conference with a .416 batting average during league play, while hitting four home runs and totaling 18 RBI.

Albany (23-23-1, 16-14) is making its fifth-straight appearance in the America East Championship, coming in as the No. 3 seed after falling to Binghamton on Saturday. Greg Muller and Josh Nethaway were two of the top-three in RBI during conference play, as Muller led the America East with 27, and Muller was third with 23.

Reigning champion Stony Brook (23-32, 14-15) needed a win at Hartford on the final day of the regular season to move past the Hawks and into the No. 4 seed in the America East Championship. The Seawolves scored in six of the nine innings, including each of the first two to take down the Hawks. The win means the Stony Brook has now qualified for the tournament 11 of the 12 years since joining the league.

The 2013 America East Baseball Championship will take place May 22-24 at LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass., home to the Boston Red Sox single-A affiliate Lowell Spinners. Visit Championship Central for more information.
