Volleyball Hits Midway Point in Season This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - America East volleyball teams finish their first pass through the conference schedule with New Hampshire holding a one-game lead on first place with four teams tied for second at 3-2. The top four teams in the conference standings qualify for the America East Championship. Here is a look at the weekend matchups:

Friday, Oct. 18

New Hampshire at Binghamton - 7 pm

  • New Hampshire enters Friday night with a one-game lead on first place in the conference, while Binghamton is two games back at 2-3.
  • The Wildcats are the top hitting team during conference play with a .239 hitting percentage while holding opponents to .147.
  • The Bearcats have been given a boost by freshman Allison Hovie during conference play, as she ranks third with a 3.21 kills per set average.

UMass Lowell at Albany - 7 pm

  • The River Hawks are looking for their first Division I win while Albany is looking to get back on track after losing three of its last four matches.
  • The Great Danes have played well defensively in conference play, holding opponents to a .159 hitting percentage which is third in the conference.
  • UMass Lowell senior Carolyn Eddy is one of the top libero's in the conference, ranking seventh with 3.72 digs per set.

Hartford at UMBC - 7 pm

  • Hartford has won two of its last three matches while UMBC is off to a 3-2 start in conference play and is in a four-way tie for second place.
  • The Hawks played strong defense in their two conference wins, holding Binghamton to a .148 hitting percentage and UMass Lowell to .068.
  • UMBC sits atop the conference in all games in both hitting percentage (.203) and opponent hitting percentage (.144).

Providence at Stony Brook - 7 pm

  • The Friars continue one of their best seasons since joining the America East with wins in six of their last eight matches. Stony Brook had its four-match winning streak snapped at Albany, but still has won six of its last eight as well.
  • The Seawolves are hitting 40 points higher (.199) over their last eight matches compared to all matches played (.159).
  • The Friars are third in the conference in blocks per set (1.97) during league play as Lindsay Witt leads the conference with 1.35 blocks per set.
