Omar, Burne and Lane Rack-Up Week #7 Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A single weekend stands between America East cross country teams and the AE Championship at Binghamton on Nov. 2. Two new faces are featured as Week #6 Cross Country Performers of the Week. Here’s a look at your honorees:


Men’s Performer of the Week
Hassan Omar, So., UMBC

Frederick, Md.

  • Set a new school record en route to placing 16th at the Princeton Invitational.
  • Omar’s 8k time of 24:21 paced the Retriever squad to a seventh-place finish at the meet.
  • Currently holds the best 8k time among the 2013 America East Men’s Cross Country Performers of the Week.
  • UMBC currently holds the 10th spot in the most recent USTFCCCA Division I Rankings for the Mid-Atlantic region.

Around the League

  • Aaron Szotka of Vermont and James Sommer of Albany each raced in the UAlbany 8k Cross Country invitational with top-10 finishes.
  • Stony Brook’s Tyler Frigge also partook in the Princeton Invitational, clocking in at 24:37 to finish 30th.
  • Andrew Dwyer led the Hartford Hawks at the Princeton Invitational with an 8k time of 25:11.
  • Omar Abdi placed fifth among 55 runners at the Brown University Rothenberg Run, finishing the 8K course in 25:49.8.
  • New Hampshire and Vermont remain in the USTFCCCA Division I Northeast Regional rankings at 14th and 15th, respectively.

Women’s Co-Performer of the Week
Olivia Burne, Sr., Stony Brook
Suffern, N.Y.

  • Lined up against tough competition in No. 1 Providence, No. 3 Arizona and No. 8 Arkansas at the Wisconsin Adidas Invite.
  • Clocked in at 20:50 to finish 69th in a field of 288 runners.
  • Stony Brook currently sits atop all other AE programs in the most recent USTFCCCA Division I Northeast Rankings at No. 8.

Women’s Co-Performer of the Week
Brittney Lane, Sr., Albany
Greenwich, N.Y.

  • Collected a season-best 6k time of 20:50 at the Pre-Nationals White Race.
  • Lane’s finish was good enough for a fifth-place finish among 227 other runners.Her performance lifted Albany to a fifth-place team finish just, behind top-tier teams California (No. 13 West Region), Virginia Tech (No. 9 Southeast), Xavier (No. 11 Great Lakes) and Illinois.
  • Albany rounds out the DI Northeast Regional Rankings at No. 15 in the latest USTFCCCA poll.

Around the League

  • Cody Mezebish finished 43rd at the Princeton Invitational with a 6k time of 22:40.
  • Hilary Rawding was the top-performer for Vermont as she placed 21st with a 5k time of 19:45.
  • Hartford’s Megan Barry finished fourth overall and third among scoring competitors at the Princeton Invitational with a personal-best 6k time of 21:39.
  • Even with resting its top-four runners for the upcoming AE Championship, the Catamounts still earned a third-place team finish at the Albany Invitational.
  • New Hampshire and Vermont also remain ranked in the USTFCCCA Northeast poll, coming in at No. 10 and No 14, respectively.
