Volleyball Starts Second Half of Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - America East volleyball teams begin the second half of the season this weekend, with one match Friday, two Saturday and one Sunday. Four teams are tied for first place in the league standings. The top seed at the end of the regular-season will host the championship Nov. 21-22/22-23. Here is a look at the weekend matches:

Friday, October 25
UMBC at Stony Brook - 7:30 pm

  • UMBC defeated Stony Brook in four sets in the first meeting of the season on Sept. 27.
  • Both teams are tied for first with 5-2 records beginning the second part of the year.
  • Sherelle Walker led UMBC with 17 kills, while the Retriever defense held the Seawolves to an .068 hitting percentage.
  • Katilin Costello led Stony Brook with 11 kills and 13 digs.

Saturday, October 26UMass Lowell at New Hampshire - 2 pm

  • New Hampshire enters the second half of the year in a four-way tie for first with UMBC, Stony Brook and Albany.
  • The Wildcats swept UMass Lowell in the first meeting as the River Hawks continue to look for their first Division I win.
  • Tori Forrest led UNH with 14 kills and 12 digs with a .303 hitting percentage.

Albany at Binghamton - 5 pm

  • In-state rivals Albany and Binghamton meet for the second time this season in a rematch of the 2012 title match.
  • The Great Danes swept the Bearcats in the first meeting, holding Binghamton to .083 hitting. Binghamton had 26 errors in the match compared to just 12 for Albany.
  • Albany is leading the conference during league play, holding opponents to just .140 hitting.

Sunday, October 27Providence at Hartford - 2 pm

  • Providence swept Hartford in the first meeting between the two teams on Sept. 29.
  • Kayla Fitzgerald led the Friars with 11 kills as the Friars hit .263 in the match while holding the Hawks to .152.
  • Hartford setter Jackie Tamburri is fourth in the conference in assists during league play at 10.32 assists per set.
