CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -Albany and Stony Brook kicked-off the 2013-14 college basketball season with wins on Friday as America East teams went 2-1 on opening night.
Albany claimed its fourth-straight Albany cup, topping Siena 69-42 at the Times Union Center. Sarah Royals had a career-high 21 points while Shereesha Richards added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Stony Brook won its first season-opener since 2010, beating NJIT 50-44. The Seawolves were paced by 18 points from Sabre Proctor, while Chikilra Goodman flirted with a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
Binghamton dropped its season-opener at home to Buffalo, 65-47. Sherae Swinson led the Bearcats with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Four teams open the season on Saturday, beginning with UMass Lowell playing its first Division I game at home against Providence at 1 p.m. The River Hawks, along with New Hampshire hosting Worcester State at 5 p.m. will be featured on AmericaEast.TV. Hartford travels to face No. 1 UConn at 4 p.m. for a game that will be available on ESPN3.
