WBB Teams Go 3-1 Thursday; SBU at Bradley Friday
America East teams went 3-1 on Thursday night at Albany, Hartford and Maine all picked-up wins. Friday night's action features just one contest at Stony Brook travels to take on Bradley at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Albany (3-0) won its 19th-straight regular-season game, defeating the No. 3 ranked mid-major team in the country, Marist, 69-59 at SEFCU Arena. Reigning America East Player of the Week, Shereesha Richards, led the Great Danes with a career-high 28 points to go with 15 rebounds for her sixth career double-double. Albany battled back from a 10-point first half deficit and outscored the Red Foxes 39-25 in the second half.
Maine (1-0) opened the new Cross Insurance Center with a, 64-59, win over North Dakota State, starting the season 1-0 for the first time under head coach Richard Barron. The Black Bears trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half, but rebounding and timely shooting helped Maine to the win. Ashleigh Roberts scored a team-high 18 points while Liz Wood notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Hartford (1-1) earned its first win of the season beating Loyola (Md.), 59-53, on the road. Freshman Deanna Mayza was impressive for the Hawks, scoring 20 points including 10-of-11 from the charity stripe. Hartford shot just 28% in the game but hit on 7-of-22 from 3-point range and 24-of-30 free throw attempts.
Binghamton (0-2) dropped an 89-48 decision at Bucknell. The Bearcats were led by Sherae Swinson's 17 points.
Stony Brook looks to move to 2-0 on the season on Friday, taking to the road to face Bradley in a game that will tip at 9:30 p.m. ET.
