Del Fava Headlines #AEXC Teams in Regionals

Bronx, N.Y. – Albany junior Siliva Del Fava ran to a 10th place overall finish in the NCAA Northeast Regional at Van Cortland Park. Del Fava clocked in with a 6k time of 20:24 to top all America East women’s cross country runners. Following shortly behind her were teammate Brittney Lane (14th) and the 2013 America East individual champion Olivia Burne of Stony Brook (15th), with times of 20:36.7 and 20:41.8, respectively. Other top-50 women’s cross country finishes included Vermont’s Yolanda Ngarambe (33rd), New Hampshire’s Anne Twombly (37th), Chelsey Serrano (47th) and Elise Beattie (49th).

The New Hampshire women finished ninth, while Albany, Stony Brook and Vermont had team finishes of 10th, 12th and 16th, respectively.

On the men’s side, Maine’s Kelton Cullenburg paced America East runners in the NCAA Northeast Regional with a 10k time of 30:35.7 to finish 17th overall. Binghamton’s Vasili Papstrat placed 48th, while the 2013 America East men’s individual champion, John Prizzi, finished 50th, with times of 31:23.0 and 31:24.5, respectively. Binghamton and New Hampshire collected team finishes of 10th and 12th, and Maine had a team finish of 21st.

Meanwhile, UMBC participated in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional and broke into the top-10, with a ninth-place team finish. Sophomore Hassan Omar (30:30) and Andrew Smith (31:17) broke the previously standing school 10k record of 31:23 to lead the Retrievers to an impressive feat, placing 22nd and 45th, respectively. The women’s team also participated in the regional and finished in the 16th spot on the day.

This year’s NCAA championship meet will take place on Nov. 23 in at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind.
