Albany, Stony Brook Earn Road Wins Wednesday
After two days off from America East women's hoops action, six teams took the court on Wednesday as Albany and Stony Brook each earned road wins.
Albany (7-0) is off to the best start for any America East team since Vermont went 28-0 in the regular season in 1992-93 after beating Dartmouth, 81-59. Shereesha Richards led Albany with a career-high 32 points on 15-of-18 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. The 15 made field goals are the most for an America East player since New Hampshire's Morgan Frame hit 15 at Wagner on Dec. 21, 2011.
Stony Brook (5-3) cruised past St. Peter's, 77-47, on the road, giving the team its first win by 30-plus points since 2009. Sabre Proctor led four Seawolves in double figures with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Stony Brook shot 21-of-25 from the free throw line and used a 25-8 start to earn the team's fifth win of the year.
UMass Lowell (0-8, 0-1 AE) fell at Old Dominion, 90-57, in front of a Lady Monarch record 8.086 fans on Education Day. Shannon Samuels led the River Hawks in scoring for the fourth-straight game with 16 points.
Hartford (1-7) lost its sixth-straight game to a tough Quinnipiac team, 62-49, in a game that was broadcast on NESN. Deanna Mayza led the Hawks with 13 points, making it the sixth time in eight games Hartford has been led in scoring by a freshman.
New Hampshire (3-4) lost to Howard, 45-40, at home in the fourth game for the Wildcats decided by five points or fewer. Binghamton (1-6) lost, 63-55, at Cornell despite a career-high 17 points from Stephanie Jensen. No America East teams are back on the court until Saturday with five games on the slate.
