UMass Lowell, Maine Pick Up League Wins Sunday
A pair of conference contests were played Sunday and they saw UMass Lowell and Maine come away with their first America East wins of the year. The River Hawks downed UMBC to earn their first-ever win against a Division I opponent while the Black Bears beat Binghamton for their second win in three games.
UMass Lowell (2-11, 1-1 AE) made 21-of-28 free throws and held UMBC (4-10, 0-1 AE) to just 29 percent shooting in the second half en route to a 59-54 win, its second of the year. The Retrievers jumped out to a 15-0 lead but UMass Lowell scored 24 of the game's next 35 points to erase the deficit in the first half. Akeem Williams paced the River Hawks with 18 points while Antonio Bivins contributed 14 off the bench. Rodney Elliot was the lone Retriever in twin figures with 14 points.
Maine (3-10, 1-0 AE) was efficient offensively, racking up 22 assists on 30 field goals en route to a 82-66 win over Binghamton (3-11, 0-1 AE). The Black Bears used a 17-4 first-half run to open up a double-digit lead and never looked back. Dimitry Akanda-Coronel had his third-straight stellar game, registering a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds while Kilian Cato had a team-high 17 points. Jordan Reed scored a game highs of 20 points and 15 boards to lead Binghamton.
