Binghamton, Hartford Post League Wins Thursday
Powered by strong bench play, Hartford and Binghamton each picked up their first men's basketball conference wins of the season Thursday as the two teams got a combined 72 points from their reserves. The Hawks downed Maine, 80-65, while the Bearcats upended New Hampshire, 67-38.
Hartford (7-10, 1-1 AE) outscored Maine (3-11, 1-1 AE), 25-10, down the stretch after the game was tied at 55 with nine minutes to go. Mark Nwakamma led four Hawks in twin figures with 18 points, including the 1,000th of his career. He also pulled down 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Oren Faulk had 14 of the Hawks' 30 bench points. Xavier Pollard led Maine with a career-high 26 points.
Binghamton (4-11, 1-1 AE) shot 53 percent from the field and got 42 points from its bench while holding UNH (2-13, 0-2 AE) to just 24 percent shooting in its second-straight home win. Nick Madray scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting off the bench.
