Richards Nets Conference Record 7th Weekly Award

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Albany sophomore Shereesha Richards set an America East women’s basketball single season record, receiving her seventh Player of the Week honor after yet another monster week, the conference office announced Monday. Joining Richards in the weekly awards is UMBC freshman Taylor McCarley. Here are the week 10 award winners:

Player of the Week
Shereesha Richards, So., Albany
Oceanview, N.J.

  • Led the conference in scoring (32.0 ppg), rebounding (14.5 rpg) and field goal percentage (66.7%) while helping Albany to a 2-0 week in conference play.
  • Set an Albany program record, scoring the most points for an America East player since March of 2005 with 41on 17-of-24 shooting in a win at Vermont. Also added 11 rebounds for here eighth double-double.
  • Set a career-high with 18 rebounds while also pouring in 23 points for her ninth double-double of the year in a win at Hartford.
  • The 18 rebounds are the most for an America East player this season.
  • Had scored in double figures in all 15 of Albany’s games.

Rookie of the Week
Taylor McCarley, Fr., UMBC
Bowie, Md.

  • Led all America East freshmen last week by averaging 12.0 points per game to go along with 4.0 rebounds per game for UMBC in an 0-2 week.
  • Reset her career-high with 16 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the free throw line in a loss at Maine.
  • Also matched a career-high with six rebounds against the Black Bears.
  • Finished the week with eight points and two rebounds in a loss at home to UMass Lowell.

Around the League

  • Albany’s Shereesha Richards scored a program record 41 points at Vermont, the most for any America East player since Boston U.’s Katie Meinhardt had 43 in March of 2005.
  • Richards’ seven Player of the Week honors are a single-season league record.
  • UMass Lowell earned its first Division I win, 65-57, at UMBC.
  • 5 different players have had 30-point performances, the most since 7 different players accomplished the feat in 2008-09.
  • New Hampshire senior Kelsey Hogan scored 35 points in an OT win over Stony Brook.
  • Stony Brook finished with its best non-conference winning percentage and highest win total at 9-4.
  • New Hampshire freshman Kristen Anderson became the first America East freshman since Binghamton’s Andrea Holmes in 2009 to score 30+ points in a game.
  • New Hampshire guard Kelsey Hogan reached the 300-assist mark to rank 11th in program history.
  • Albany’s Shereesha Richards made 17 field goals at Vermont, the most for an America East player since Northeastern’s Maralene Zwarich made 17 vs. UMBC on Jan. 17, 2004.
  • Vermont’s 95 points vs. UMass Lowell are the most for any America East Conference team since Boston U. scored 95 vs. Albany on March 7, 2009.
  • Maine started 3-0 for the first time since 1989.
  • Stony Brook eclipsed the 80-point mark for the first time since 2007 with an 83-79 win at Bradley, who was receiving votes in the mid-major poll.
  • Stony Brook’s Brittany Snow became the first Seawolf to score 30+ points in a game since 2007 with 30 points and nine rebounds vs. Bradley.
