SBU Women's Lax Earns Preseason Accolades
Just one year after turning in its best season in program history, which included winning its first America East title and NCAA Tournament game, the Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team received high praise in major lacrosse publications heading into the 2014 season, coming in at No. 12 in the Lacrosse Magazine preseason rankings and No. 14 in the ILWomen.com preseason poll.
Additionally, senior goalkeeper Frankie Caridi was named an ILWomen.com Preseason All-American. Caridi led the country in goals against average (5.71) and save percentage (.533), and anchored a stellar defensive unit that allowed an all-time Division I record 5.65 goals per game in 2013.
Under the direction of third-year head coach Joe Spallina, the Seawolves welcome back three of their top five goal scorers and more than half of their starting defense from last year’s championship team.
Stony Brook also brings in 14 decorated freshmen for 2014. The talented incoming class features numerous state champions and six former high school All-Americans.
Stony Brook finished 2013 at No. 11 in the IWLCA coaches’ poll and No. 10 in the deBeer media poll in 2013.
