Goodman, Richards Split Player of the Week Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Albany and Stony Brook continued to roll in America East women’s basketball last week, going a combined 5-0 to split conference Player of the Week awards. Albany sophomore Shereesha Richards earned her ninth Player of the Week honor of the season, while Stony Brook senior Chikilra Goodman earned her first after helping the Seawolves go 3-0. UMBC freshman Sara Tarbert took home her third Rookie of the Week honor and the fifth this season for the Retrievers. Here are the week 12 award winners:

Co-Player of the Week
Shereesha Richards, So., Albany
Oceanview, N.J.

  • Led the conference in scoring at 21.0 points per game and field goal percentage at 65.2 percent, while ranking third in rebounds per game at 8.0.
  • Recorded her Albany single-season record 12th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting in a win at Binghamton. Also had three steals in the game.
  • Scored 25 points on 7-of-11 shooting while adding six rebounds in a win over New Hampshire to give Albany sole possession of first place.

Co-Player of the Week
Chikilra Goodman, Sr., Stony Brook
Philadelphia, Pa.

  • Recorded double figures in scoring in all three games to lead the Seawolves to a 3-0 week including two wins on the road.
  • Averaged 16.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
  • Led Stony Brook in scoring twice against UMBC and Maine.
  • Hit six free throws in the final 90 seconds to secure a 66-62 win over UMBC, finishing with a career-high 13 free throws in the game. She finished with 22 points and nine rebounds.
  • Scored 15 points and had seven rebounds at Vermont.
  • Scored a game-high 12 points at Maine while also dishing out six assists and grabbing five rebounds.
  • Shot 20-of-23 from the free throw line for the week.

Rookie of the Week
Sara Tarbert, Fr., UMBC
Delta, Pa.

  • Led all America East freshmen last week in scoring at 18.0 ppg, rebounding at 6.0 rpg and field goals percentage at 58.3 percent.
  • Started the week with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with three rbeounds, two assists and two steals against Stony Brook.
  • Registered her third-straight double digit scoring performance against Hartford with 10 points to go with nine rebounds.

Around the League

  • Shereesha Richards broke the Albany single season record with her 12th double-double.
  • Maine's Cherrish Wallace had 11 assists vs. UMass Lowell, the most for an America East player since Feb. 8, 2012.
  • Stony Brook has its best 20-game start in program DI history at 15-5  and best conference start since 2006-07 at 5-1.
  • New Hampshire beat Hartford at Chase Family Arena, 61-56, for the first time since 2003.
  • UMBC sophomore Bridget O’Donnell had seven blocks at Vermont, the most for an America East player since UMBC’s Tope Obajolu had 7 at Vermont on Jan. 22, 2012.
  • Albany’s Shereesha Richards scored a program record 41 points at Vermont, the most for any America East player since Boston U.’s Katie Meinhardt had 43 in March of 2005.
  • Richards’ nine Player of the Week honors are a single-season league record.
  • UMass Lowell earned its first Division I win, 65-57, at UMBC.
  • 5 different players have had 30-point performances, the most since 7 different players accomplished the feat in 2008-09.
  • New Hampshire freshman Kristen Anderson became the first America East freshman since Binghamton’s Andrea Holmes in 2009 to score 30+ points in a game.
  • Albany’s Shereesha Richards made 17 field goals at Vermont, the most for an America East player since Northeastern’s Maralene Zwarich made 17 vs. UMBC on Jan. 17, 2004.
  • Maine started 3-0 for the first time since 1989.
