UNH, Hartford Win Wednesday; 2 Games Thursday
Elizabeth Belanger provided the excitement for America East women's basketball fans, hitting a runner with 0.9 seconds left to give New Hampshire (12-8, 6-1) a, 74-73, win on the road over Maine (10-11, 4-4) as part of a pair of games on Wednesday night.
Belanger matched a career-high with 20 points while also recording four steals, and gave New Hampshire its first lead of the second half with her heroics in the final seconds. The Wildcats are off to their best start in conference play since 1996-97.
Also on Wednesday night, Hartford (8-13, 5-3) won its fourth-straight game, beating Vermont, 64-51, on the road. The Hawks used a 14-0 run early in the second half to take a one-point lead to 15. Cherelle Moore led the Hartford bench that accounted for 41 points with 14 of her own.
Thursday night will feature two games at 7 p.m. that will be available live for free on AmericaEast.TV.
Two of the hottest teams in the America East square off at Pritchard gym as Albany (17-3, 7-0) visits Stony Brook (15-5, 6-1). The Great Danes have won eight-straight games and 30 in-a-row over conference opponents. The Seawolves have won five-straight and are off to their best 20-game start in program DI history at 15-5. The reigning Co-Players of the Week in Stony Brook's Chikilra Goodman and Albany's Shereesha Richards will be on display.
UMass Lowell (2-17, 1-7) begins the second-half of its first year in the America East against Binghamton (4-16, 1-6) at the Events Center. The Bearcats edged the River Hawks in Lowell earlier this season, 65-64. Lindsey Doucette had 22 points and 14 rebounds for UMass Lowell in that game while Sherae Swinson led the Bearcats with 20.
