Stony Brook Ranked, Albany Receiving Votes in National Polls
With the women's lacrosse season just around the corner, two America East women's lacrosse programs received national recognition in both the coaches' and media polls.
Stony Brook University, fresh off its first America East title in 2013, came in at No. 14 in the Brine Media Poll and No. 12 in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll - its highest preseason ranking in program history. The Seawolves are the favorite to repeat in 2014, selected first in the America East coaches' poll with four first-place votes and 24 points.
Stony Brook returns seven starters from last year's team that won the first NCAA Tournament game in program history. ILWomen Preseason All-American goalie Frankie Caridi is coming off a stellar season that saw her post the nation's best save percentage (.530) and goals-against average (5.71).
University at Albany is receiving votes in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll. The Great Danes were picked second in the America East coaches' poll with 22 points and two first-place votes. Albany has advanced to three-straight America East title games.
The Great Danes lost just two starters from last year’s 12-5 (5-1 AE) squad, and welcome 15 newcomers. UAlbany returns 2013 Preseason All-America selection and 2013 America East Co-Rookie of the Year in the midfield; and IWLCA All-Region awardee on defense to highlight the returners.
