UMass Lowell Hosts UMBC Saturday; Albany Tops Hartford
In the only America East women's basketball game on the schedule on Saturday, UMass Lowell (3-18, 2-8) hosts UMBC (2-20, 1-9) at 1 p.m. on AmericaEast.TV.
The River Hawks earned their first Division I win in program history against the Retrievers in Baltimore back on Jan. 11. and are now looking for their first home America East Conference win. UMass Lowell boasts three of the top five scorers in the conference during league play in Jasmine McRoy (2nd at 15.8 ppg), Lindsey Doucette (4th at 14.7) and Shannon Samuels (5th at 14.2 ppg).
UMBC has one of the top freshmen in the conference in Sara Tarbert who has registered six-straight games in double figures and leads all freshmen in scoring at 13.1 ppg. The Retrievers are looking to snap a nine-game skid.
On Friday, Albany (21-3, 11-0) earns its 12th-straight win and 34th-straight conference win, 90-68, over Hartford on ESPN3. Tammy Phillip led five Great Danes in double figures with a career-high 19 points to go with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Albany grabbed the first 12 rebounds of the game and built a 23-12 lead over the opening eight minutes. The Hawks would not get back within single digits. Albany finished the game shooting 56.7 percent and forcing 24 Hawk turnovers.
