CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East women’s basketball regular-season came to a close on Saturday and the conference tournament begins Friday, March 7 at Albany’s SEFCU Arena. Maine sophomore Liz Wood and Stony Brook junior Jessica Ogunnorin took home Co-Player of the Week honors. UMBC freshman Taylor McCarley earned Rookie of the Week accolades after notching a triple-double against Binghamton. Here are the week 17 awards:

Co-Player of the Week
Liz Wood, So., Maine
Catlett, Va.

  • Averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Black Bears.
  • Hit 14 of her 23 shot attempts, ranking third in the conference shooting 60.9% from the field.
  • Scored 20 points, had 15 rebounds and dished out eight assists as Maine beat UMass Lowell.
  • Scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting including a trio of 3-pointers while also pulling down seven rebounds as the Black Bears beat UNH on the road to clinch the No. 4 seed.

Co-Player of the Week
Jessica Ogunnorin, Jr., Stony Brook

  • Averaged 15.0 points and a conference-best 12.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Seawolves.
  • Scored 12 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in a win over Vermont.
  • Went for 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting with nine rebounds as Stony Brook upset Albany, handing the Great Danes their first conference loss since Jan. 28, 2012.

Rookie of the Week
Taylor McCarley, Fr., UMBC
Bowie, Md.

  • Recorded the first triple-double in UMBC program history in the Retrievers lone game, leading the squad to a road win over Binghamton.
  • Scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
  • It is the first triple-double in the America East since Boston U.’s Mo Moran accomplished the feat

Around the League

  • Stony Brook snapped an eight-game losing skid against Albany, handing the Great Danes their first loss in conference play since Jan. 28, 2012.
  • The Seawolves captured the No. 2 seed in the tournament and have a Division I program record 22 wins so far this season.
  • New Hampshire is having its best season since 1998-99 as the Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed with an 18-11 overall record, going 12-4 in conference play.
  • Maine has its highest finish since 2004-05 when the Black Bears captured the regular-season title, finishing fourth at 10-6 in conference play.
  • Hartford finished fifth or higher for the 11th-straight season.
  • Vermont is the No. 6 seed for the second-straight year. The Catamounts upset No. 3 UMBC last season in the tournament, the team’s first tournament win since 2010.
  • UMBC beat Binghamton in double OT to earn the No. 7 seed. The last time UMBC was the No. 7 seed was in 2007, when the Retrievers became the lowest seed in any America East sport to win a championship.
  • Hartford hit a school record 16 three-pointers against UMBC, tied for the second-most in America East history.
  • Hartford’s Amber Bepko hit a school record seven 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 25 points vs. UMBC.
  • New Hampshire’s 18 overall wins and 12 conference wins are the most for the team since finishing 19-8 and 13-5 in 1998-99.
  • Vermont’s Kylie Butler scored 27 points at UMass Lowell, the most for a UVM freshman since Christie Lauzon had 28 on 3/3/1996 vs. Boston U.
  • Albany won 38-straight conference regular-season games, breaking the America East record held by Maine (1995-97) of 37-straight.
  • Albany’s Shereesha Richards scored a program record 41 points at Vermont, the most for any America East player since Boston U.’s Katie Meinhardt had 43 in March of 2005.
  • Richards’ nine Player of the Week honors are a single-season league record.
  • 6 different players have had 30-point performances, the most since 7 different players accomplished the feat in 2008-09.
