BATON ROUGE, La. - The No. 15 seed Albany Great Danes will meet No. 2 West Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship on Sunday, March 23 at 3 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge, La.
The game will be broadcast in the team’s markets in Albany and West Virginia on ESPN and is available online anywhere on ESPN3. The game will also be broadcast on the radio in the Capital District on Fox Sports 980. Tickets for the game range from $5-16 and are available on LSUtix.net.
Albany (28-4) won the 2014 America East title back on Monday, March 10, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament for the third-straight year. The Great Danes enter the contest with a program record 28 wins and are only the fourth program in America East history to win three-straight conference titles.
West Virginia (29-4) earned its first Big 12 regular season title this season, falling to Baylor 74-71 in its league title game to go into the NCAA at 29-4 overall and 16-2 in its conference.
The Great Danes earned their first entrance into the Division I NCAA Tournament in 2012, receiving a 14-seed, falling to No. 3 seed Texas A&M, 69-47. UAlbany followed up the next year with a 14-seed again, taking on 3-seed North Carolina. The Great Danes took UNC to the brink in Newark, Del., but succumbed to a late Tar Heel charge to fall 59-54.
America East teams are 4-25 all-time in the NCAA tournament, but 3-9 since 2006. The last win for an America East team came in 2010 when No. 10 Vermont upset No. 7 Wisconsin in the first round.
